Brought to public attention, after designing the Petit Café at Passage de Retz and the Strip chair for Poltrona Frau, Christian Biecher has built several buildings in France (County Library in Carcassonne, Long Term Care Hospital in Hénin-Beaumont),in Japan (TUR building in Tokyo,Sora Community Centrein Shiki) and China (Harvey Nichols Hong Kong).He has designed furniture and objects for many manufacturers in Europe (Baccarat,Lancôme,Christofle),Japan (Sazaby,HA2) and the United States (BernhardtDesign). In 2007, he completed his first building in downtown Paris, acultural center at place des Fêtes,as well as the new premises for Fauchon at place de la Madeleine in Paris, Shin Kong Place in Beijing and Tokyo. The following years he will complete the refurbishment of the former Budapest Stock Exchange in Hungary, office buildings in Kyoto and Prague.
He was awarded ‘Albums de la Jeune Architecture’(1993), Carte blanche VIA(French furniture industries,2000),Designer of the year (Maison&Objet, 2002) and New designer (ICFF New York, 2002).
His design work was shown in a personal exhibition,Christian Biecher Before,at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris in 2001, and is now in the collections of the Design Museum in Lisbon, the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris, the Musée national d’Art moderne – Centre Georges Pompidou,the Fonds national d’Art contemporain (France).Two books have been published on his work recently : Christian Biecher, architect, designer by Florence Michel and Constance Rubini, Grégoire Gardette Editions,Nice,2002 and Christian Biecher,foreword by Christian Lacroix,Pyramyd Editions,Paris 2003.Amonography,with an essay by Philippe Tretiack is about to be published by AAM in 2008.
