Armelle Benoit graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1983.
She initially trained as a painter then moved to ceramics, with Jacqueline Lerat as a tutor. In her formative years she focused on clay and wood oven firing. She then travelled extensively in Asia, Mexico and Sicily, researching ancient techniques and traditional pottery. Armelle Benoit was then keen to modernise these techniques to make contemporary objects. She set up her studio in the Loire Valley, working particularly on colour and developing her own glazes.
Armelle Benoit collaborates with artists and designers and constantly pushes the boundaries of her medium. Involved in elaborate interior design project, she produces decorating elements ranging from furniture to decorative panels.
